JUST ONE DOOR AWAY
When disaster comes to coastal communities, the first help often comes from just one door away. A neighbor opens her home. A mother passes the word. A young person tells her family it’s time to evacuate. JUST ONE DOOR AWAY is a series of short films about these everyday acts of care in fishing communities on Negros Island, the Philippines. Each film follows people who chose to share their stories, in their own words, about losing homes, rebuilding, and looking out for one another. The films were created by Joanna Hioe, with support from a seed grant from the Institute for the Public Understanding of Risk (IPUR), National University of Singapore.
